Leading up to the feature event, Jones was the ninth fastest qualifier with a time of 16.035. He drew the first of the four 10-lap heat races of the night but was forced to pull off the track early due to an issue with the fuel line that caused him to finish sixth. The team rallied in time to make the 15-lap semi-feature where Jones was able to race his way to a sixth place finish for the final transfer spot for the feature. Defending USAC Mopar National Midget Champion and 2011 USAC National Drivers Championship leader Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. led all but the first two laps to win Sunday night’s 30-lap feature. Clauson passed Caleb Armstrong on lap three and never giving up the top spot from there as he beat fast qualifier Jerry Coons Jr., Brad Kuhn, Kyle Larson and Darren Hagen to the checkered flag. Hagen continues to lead the series standings going into the next race on September 2 at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Ill. “It was a cool night getting to debut the 56 3 Wide Life Midget for Shane (Hmiel) and it was great to have him back at the track,” said Jones. “We were just a little bit off on the chassis but our motor was really strong so now that we have this first race under our belts we have a good idea of what we need to work for our next race. But all in all an 11th place finish right out of the gates here isn’t too bad. We’ll take it and move on to LaSalle.” For media inquiries please contact Adam Colborne at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
